The Lansing SAVE program is wrapping up its 12th year in successfully educating students in the Lansing school district about college savings. This program was created in 2014, in partnership with the City of Lansing, and the Lansing School District, to help students learn the importance of saving for college all while getting a free college savings account from MSU Federal Credit Union.
Each month, MSUFCU’s Financial Education team visits classrooms, in the Lansing School District, to provide a 30-minute financial literacy lessons tailored to each grade level. Topics range from basic money skills like identifying coins and understanding needs vs. wants, to more advanced subjects such as budgeting, banking, and credit.
This summer, the SAVE team is preparing lessons and schedules for the upcoming SAVE year. All this preparation ensures that the program runs smoothly in the next school year.
With the program being just two years away from graduation, the team is excited to continue to make each lesson count and continue to grow the program to the fullest potential.
